Audits

The audits that we perform fall into 3 broad classes: Electrical Code Compliance, SCADA Efficiency, and Motor Installation.

Electrical Code Compliance

The Electrical Code Compliance Audit focuses on compliance with State and Federal Electrical Codes based on NFPA and API standards. In particular we consider the following Standards and Practices:

  • NFPA 70 - National Electric Code
  • NFPA 70E - Electrical Safety in the Workplace
  • NFPA 496 - Standard for Purged and Pressurized Enclosures
  • API RP 14C - Safety Systems for Offshore Oil Platforms
  • API RP 14F - Electrical Systems for Offshore Oil Platforms
  • API RP 500 - (Hazardous) Area Classification for Oil and Gas Facilities

SCADA Efficiency

The SCADA Efficiency Audit focuses on the suitability of a given SCADA strategy to achieve desired goals. Those goals might be:

  • High-speed Data Acquisition
  • Long-term Data Storage
  • Accurate & Reliable Data Archiving
  • Secure Data Servers
  • Off-site Storage with Redundant Backups
  • Redundant Network Media, PLCs, and PCs
  • Daily Reports on Plant Status

Motor Installations

The Motor Installation Audit is a special case of the Electrical Audit. It focuses on the special requirements for motors. Motors are often replaced with similar, but not identical, units when they fail. The conduit, wire, and overload heaters, however, are rarely changed to meet the requirements of the new motors.

This audit focuses on the entire motor installation, from feeders & controllers to branch circuits & motors, and makes sure that each part is in compliance with the current electrical code.

  • Feeder & Branch Circuit Sizing
  • Short Circuit & Ground Fault Protection
  • Motor Controller & Disconnect Sizing
  • Motor Control Circuits
  • Motor Overload Protection
  • Conduit Sizing
  • Equipment Grounding Conductor Sizing
  • Temperature Rating of Motors & Conductors
